Director Spotlight: Freda Davis, Jade Collison, Cecil Brown

Join us in welcoming new board members Freda Davis (Director, OMVC) and Jade Collison (Alternate, OMVC).

Freda Davis

My name is Freda Davis, I am from the Yagulaanaas Yakgujaanaas clan. I’m married to Elvis Davis, we have been together for 40 years. We have 3 amazing daughter and 5 wonderful grandchildren.

I am currently on my 3rd year on council and my 2nd year as deputy Chief. To be honest I never thought I would be so entrenched in politics, but here I am. I love knowing that I am a part of positive things to come for our community of Gaw Tlagee (Old Massett).

I’m excited to start learning how things are run within the Gwaii Trust board and help our island flourish.

Jade Collison

My name is Jade Collison, newly elected to the Old Massett Village Council. I have recently completed my diploma in Business Administration with a Human Resource concentration. Prior to 2 years of full-time school, I was employed with the Haida Health Centre and Northern Health as a Care Aide. I gained significant knowledge and skills during those 8+ years working with our elders and community members, I cherish each moment and will always carry the lessons learned close to my heart.

Some hobbies I enjoy are harvesting and preserving our traditional foods such as canning clams, deer, berries, and fish. As well as making homemade jams, salsas, marinating sauces, relishes and of course pickling everything! I spend a fair amount of time managing our Jr. Boys basketball team and coaching soccer.

I certainly look forward to the next 3 years serving our community on council and on the Gwaii Trust board as an alternate.

Cecil Brown

This also marks the end of term for our friend and board member, Cecil Brown.

Cecil represented Old Massett Village Council on our board from March 2018 to May 2021, and previously served as alternate to Gwaii Trust director John T. Jones from January 2011 to April 2014.

Cecil has always been a welcome addition to the board as an advocate for the health and well-being of the people and communities of Haida Gwaii, as well as bringing his trademark wit and dedication to board meetings.

We wish you well, Cecil, and look forward to seeing you again soon!
