Can you share some of your background and experience that relates to your work on the Gwaii Trust Board? I was born in Churchill Manitoba, the polar bear capital of the world. Due to my father’s employment, we moved several times within Manitoba. I then joined the Canadian Armed Forces and turned into a real transient. I was posted to almost all of Canada’s provinces, and did a tour in Egypt serving with the United Nations. I went through trades training in the military and became a RM Tech (refrigeration mechanical). My Job experience was very varied through out my career and my most enjoyable was as the Engineering Office for CFS Masset. I retired from the service in 1998 after serving for 28 years, and moved back to Masset.
Since my return to Masset, I have worked as a manager for a small company and then started out on my own. I do home repairs, have a local accommodation that I run, and a fishing charter. I am on the board of directors for Haida Gwaii Consumers Coop and am currently Vice President of the board. I am a councillor for the Village of Masset and a director for Gwaii Trust representing Graham Island North.
I really like my community and believe in paying back to the community by serving it.
