History of the Green Shield Canada Oral and Mental Health Care Grantt

Green Shield Canada (GSC) partnered with the Gwaii Trust Society in 2022-2024 to establish the GSC Community Impact Fund, with the goal of investing in local organizations dedicated to improving oral and mental health on Haida Gwaii.

The oral health fund supported initiatives that help increase access to dental services for under-insured and uninsured Haida Gwaii residents.

The mental health fund invested in initiatives that support the delivery of mental health care and in advocacy projects that increase awareness of mental health issues and resources

GSC Oral and Mental Health Care Fund Recipients

The below recipients were chosen to be funded by the GSC Oral and Mental Health Care Fund in 2022 – 2024.

Niislaa Naay Healing House Society – Niislaa Naay T’sang

Niislaa Naay Healing House Society was awarded $63,000 to support their Niislaa Naay T’sang Healing House Teeth program.

Old Massett Village Council – Land Based Healing Camp

Old Massett Village Council was awarded $25,000 to support their land-based healing camp.

Xaayda Gwaay Ngaaysdll Naay Haida Gwaii Hospital & Health Centre – Kal Naay Alder House Integrated Mental Health Support

Haida Gwaii Hospital & Health Centre – Xaayda Gwaay Ngaaysdll Naay was awarded $25,000 to support their Kal Naay Alder House Integrated Mental Health Support

Island Wellness Society – Mental Health Position

Island Wellness Society was awarded $25,844 to support the addition of a mental health worker.

XaaydaGa Dlaang Society – Skidegate Dental Clinic

XaaydaGa Dlaang Society was awarded $82,000 to support the Skidegate Dental Clinic.

XaaydaGa Dlaang Society – Ganada Holding Space

XaaydaGa Dlaang Society was awarded $25,000 to support Ganada Holding Space Grief & Loss 3-day healing retreats.
