Funds Accepting Donations

The Haida Gwaii Community Foundation works with the variety of individuals and groups to assist on the development of funding programs that benefit all of Haida Gwaii. We aim to maximum donor contributions wherever possible.

Carl Hart Legacy Fund 

Launched in 2016, the Hart Family established the Carl Hart Legacy Fund in partnership with the Gwaii Trust Society to support Haida Gwaii youth through programs like Rediscovery T’aalan Stl’ang. Rediscovery offers young people on Haida Gwaii the opportunity to reconnect with the land, their culture, and their communities. Gwaii Trust Society has agreed to match the first $250,000 in donations.  

Gwaii Animal Helpline Fund 

The Gwaii Animal Helpline Fund was launched in November 2023. Donations support the well-being of companion animals on Haida Gwaii on a long-term basis. Gwaii Trust Society has agreed to match up to $50,000.

Literacy Haida Gwaii Fund

Literacy Haida Gwaii‘s mission is to promote lifelong learning on Haida Gwaii. Launched in 2024, the Literacy Haida Gwaii Fund is an endowment fund to support operations. Gwaii Trust Society has agreed to match up to $50,000.

Haida Gwaii Hope Air Fund 

Hope Air’s mission is to ensure equitable access to health care for the most vulnerable in our society. Established in 1986, Hope Air provides free travel support through flights, accommodations, meals, and ground transportation for Canadians in financial need to access diagnosis and care for a wide variety of health conditions, including Cancer, Cardiovascular, Diabetes, Respiratory, Orthopedic, Mental Health, Autism, and numerous pediatric conditions. Launched in 2023, the Haida Gwaii Hope Air Fund supports medical travel for Haida Gwaii residents. Gwaii Trust Society has agreed to match up to $50,000.

General Community Fund

Donations made to the General Community Fund are unrestricted and used at the discretion of the Board of Directors to meet future priorities and ever-changing needs in our community.

Other Funds

From time to time the Gwaii Trust Society will partner with other grant-giving organizations to help deliver benefits to Haida Gwaii.

Green Shield Canada Community Impact Fund 

The GSC Community Impact Fund was launched in 2022 and invests in local organizations dedicated to improving oral and mental health on Haida Gwaii. This includes an investment of $290,000 for flow-through granting over two years (2022-2024), as well as a permanent endowment of $200,000.

Haida Gwaii Prosperity Impact Fund 

The Haida Gwaii Community Foundation received $115,000 in 2024 to help deliver the Haida Gwaii Prosperity Fund on Haida Gwaii. The Fund was a $25 million investment from the Government of BC that advances poverty reduction and social inclusion in local communities.
