The Haida Gwaii Community Foundation (HGCF) was established by the Gwaii Trust Society in the fall of 2016 as an opportunity to receive funds and issue tax receipts to donors.

FUNDS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING DONATIONS

Carl Hart Legacy Fund 
Launched in 2016, the Carl Hart Legacy Fund is building an endowment to support youth-oriented programs at Rediscovery T’aalan Stl’ang in perpetuity. Rediscovery gives young people on Haida Gwaii a chance to reconnect with the land, their culture and their communities. Gwaii Trust has agreed to match the first $250,000 in donations.

Gwaii Animal Helpline Fund 
The Gwaii Animal Helpline Fund was launched in November 2023. Donations support the well-being of companion animals on Haida Gwaii on a long-term basis. Gwaii Trust has agreed to match up to $50,000 in the first year.

Literacy Haida Gwaii Fund
Literacy Haida Gwaii‘s mission is to promote lifelong learning on Haida Gwaii. Launched in 2024, the Literacy Haida Gwaii Fund is an endowment fund to support operations. Gwaii Trust has agreed to match up to $50,000 in the first year.

Haida Gwaii Hope Air Fund 
Hope Air’s mission is to ensure equitable access to health care for the most vulnerable in our society. Established in 1986, Hope Air provides free travel support through flights, accommodations, meals, and ground transportation for Canadians in financial need to access diagnosis and care for a wide variety of health conditions, including Cancer, Cardiovascular, Diabetes, Respiratory, Orthopedic, Mental Health, Autism, and numerous pediatric conditions. Launched in 2023, the Haida Gwaii Hope Air Fund supports medical travel for Haida Gwaii residents. Gwaii Trust has agreed to match up to $50,000 in the first year.

General Community Fund 
Donations made to the General Community Fund are unrestricted and used at the discretion of the Board of Directors to meet future priorities and ever-changing needs in our community.

OTHER FUNDS

Green Shield Canada Community Impact Fund 
The GSC Community Impact Fund was launched in 2022 and invests in local organizations dedicated to improving oral and mental health on Haida Gwaii. This includes an investment of $290,000 for flow-through granting over two years (2022-2024), as well as a permanent endowment of $200,000.
