The Haida Gwaii Community Foundation (HGCF) was established by the Gwaii Trust Society in the fall of 2016 as an opportunity to receive funds and issue tax receipts to donors both locally and abroad.
To kick start this initiative, the Gwaii Trust Board of Directors agreed to seed the foundation with $50,000 startup funding, match all kids camps donation funds up to $250,000, and match all other foundation donations up to $500,000.
In 2022, the HGCF partnered with Green Shield Canada to establish the GSC Community Impact Fund with the goal of investing in local organizations dedicated to improving oral and mental health on Haida Gwaii. This includes an investment of $290,000 for flow-through granting over two years, as well as a permanent endowment of $200,000. The HGCF is a registered Canadian charity, B/N: 833633811RR0001
