Overview

Athlii Gwaii Legacy Revitalization Grant aims to support increased economic diversification, resilience and self-sustainability of the communities and residents of Haida Gwaii. Projects that are under the below list can apply for this funding.

  • Mentorships
  • Projects that support economic development on Haida Gwaii
  • Partner with colleges and institutions for local skills training
  • Food Security – food production, distribution, and storage
  • Inter-island travel / ferry
  • Boat building
  • Locally-processed forest products
  • Trail building and maintenance
  • Tourism
  • Barge / container facilities
  • Recycling facilities

Who Can Apply

Funding is available for Haida Gwaii based organizations (not-for-profits, local government and incorporated companies).

Note: we are still obtaining legal advice on whether Sole Proprietorships will be eligible or will require funding via loans from Community Futures.

The proposed project must be located in Haida Gwaii.

Funding Criteria

All eligible projects will be assessed by Gwaii Trust Society staff who will support by preparing all application materials to complete the Project Review Committee’s independent ranking and evaluation process. The following table outlines the criteria that will be used to prioritize projects for funding:

Application Process

  1. Read the Athlii Gwaii Legacy Revitalization Grant Guide (coming soon).
  2. Applications must be for capital projects that generate jobs on island and increase economic diversification. Certain activities may not be eligible for funding.
  3. Applications must include all feasibility studies (if applicable), design and implementation details and a business plan to demonstrate that the project is ready for tender. Projects must have received all or most permits or approvals if applicable.
  4. Applications must detail other capital funding contributions. Capital funding may include own-source revenue, in-kind contributions, debt financing, or grants and contributions from other agencies.
