Criminal Contempt of Court Charges 1985
On November 22, 1985, Western Forest Products and the BC Attorney General filed in the BC Supreme Court to increase charges from mischief to that of criminal contempt, punishable of up to two years in jail, for 18 people. Seventeen Haida and an NDP MP who was invited to stand on the line by citizens of the Haida Nation.
The case was heard November 28, 1985, at the Supreme Court of BC in Prince Rupert by the Honourable Chief Justice Allan McEachern. President of the Haida Nation, Miles Richardson Jr represented the Haida defendants. Sentencing for those convicted was held December 6, 1985, at the Supreme Court of BC in Vancouver.

- John Yeltatzie: charged and convicted; received a suspended sentence of five months imprisonment
- Diane Brown: charged and convicted; received a suspended sentence of five months imprisonment
- Willard Wilson: charged and convicted. Before sentencing, at the express request of President of the Haida Nation Miles Richardson Jr. – in order to have Mr. Wilson continue overseeing the administration of the Athlii Gwaii stand – Mr. Wilson agreed not to return to Lyell Island for a period of four to six months and as such, was not sentenced.
- Guujaaw: charged and convicted; received a suspended sentence of five months imprisonment
- Roberta Olsen: charged and convicted; received a suspended sentence of five months imprisonment
- Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas: charged and convicted; received a suspended sentence of five months imprisonment
- Arnie Bellis: charged and convicted; received a suspended sentence of five months imprisonment
- Martin Williams: charged and convicted; received a suspended sentence of five months imprisonment
- NDP MP Svend Robinson: charged and fined $750. Robinson would not apologize to the courts but agreed not to return to the Lyell Island blockade.
Criminal Contempt of Court Charges 1986
New charges were laid against 11 Haida and again raised from mischief to that of criminal contempt and punishable up to two years in jail upon sentencing. Charges were later dropped.
