The logo for Athlii Gwaii Legacy was designed by Cori Yahl ‘Aadas
Rooted deeply in culture, history, and place, her work reflects a dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression. Her creative practice is deeply connected to cultural ceremonies shared with her children, which continually inspires and informs her work. Through this connection, Cori carries forward and shares knowledge, honouring her heritage while innovating within her artistic practice.
In her words: “This design is comprised of green upside down U-shapes, which become cursive R’s, an interpretation of the pillars of funding for the legacy trust: Renewables, Restoration, and Revitalization. Within these R’s are Trineg shapes in light green, which are outlined by a darker green lines, the two elements together become trees with branches extending outward. Combined, these elements represent the forests of Haida Gwaii, and surrounded by the R’s, represent the protected Haida Heritage Site, and Gwaii Haanas Park reserve, the legacy of Athlii Gwaii. In between the U shapes, is another Tri-neg, connecting the design and maintaining the familiar visual balance of the Gwaii Trust logo. Finally, the two U-shapes lean to the right, they are moving forward. They also vary slightly in height, as do their inner Trineg elements to represent the growth that will come from the Athlii Gwaii Legacy Trust.”
